av-l2oixqcu-f5545cb10a71d98c703dce24bb3be465 '   itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div class='avia_textblock'  itemprop=\"text\" ><div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"subsection\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"subsection\">\n<p>As used in this chapter, the following definitions shall apply:<\/p>\n<div class=\"subsection\">\n<p>(a)\u2002\u201c<span class=\"wordphrase\">Board<\/span>\u201d means the California Victim Compensation\u00a0Board.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subsection\">\n<div class=\"subsection\">\n<p>(b)(1)\u2002\u201c<span class=\"wordphrase\">Crime<\/span>\u201d means a crime or public offense, wherever it may take place, that would constitute a misdemeanor or a felony if the crime had been committed in California by a competent adult.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subsection\">\n<p>(2)\u2002\u201c<span class=\"wordphrase\">Crime<\/span>\u201d includes an act of terrorism, as defined in\u00a0<span class=\"cite\">Section 2331 of Title 18 of the United States Code\u00a0<\/span>, committed against a resident of the state, whether or not the act occurs within the state.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subsection\">\n<p>(c)\u2002\u201c<span class=\"wordphrase\">Derivative victim<\/span>\u201d means an individual who sustains pecuniary loss as a result of injury or death to a victim.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subsection\">\n<p>(d)\u2002\u201c<span class=\"wordphrase\">Law enforcement<\/span>\u201d means every district attorney, municipal police department, sheriff&#8217;s department, district attorney&#8217;s office, county probation department, and social services agency, the Department of Justice, the Department of Corrections, the Department of the Youth Authority, the Department of the California Highway Patrol, the police department of any campus of the University of California, California State University, or community college, and every agency of the State of California expressly authorized by statute to investigate or prosecute law violators.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subsection\">\n<p>(e)\u2002\u201c<span class=\"wordphrase\">Pecuniary loss<\/span>\u201d means an economic loss or expense resulting from an injury or death to a victim of crime that has not been and will not be reimbursed from any other source.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subsection\">\n<p>(f)\u2002\u201c<span class=\"wordphrase\">Peer counseling<\/span>\u201d means counseling offered by a provider of mental health counseling services who has completed a specialized course in rape crisis counseling skills development, participates in continuing education in rape crisis counseling skills development, and provides rape crisis counseling within the State of California.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subsection\">\n<p>(g)\u2002\u201c<span class=\"wordphrase\">Victim<\/span>\u201d means an individual who sustains injury or death as a direct result of a crime as specified in\u00a0<span class=\"cite\">subdivision (e) of Section 13955\u00a0<\/span>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subsection\">\n<p>(h)\u2002\u201c<span class=\"wordphrase\">Victim center<\/span>\u201d means a victim and witness assistance center that receives funds pursuant to\u00a0<span class=\"cite\">Section 13835.2 of the Penal Code\u00a0<\/span>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br class=\"avia-permanent-lb\" \/><br class=\"avia-permanent-lb\" \/><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/crowdsourcelawyers.com\/\">CrowdSourceLawyers.com<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":7,"featured_media":0,"parent":2019,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-2744","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"yoast_head":"<!--
