av-l36610wy-3dbcd72f542838803513829bd300e3d1 '   itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div class='avia_textblock'  itemprop=\"text\" ><div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"subsection\">(a)\u2002Any person otherwise eligible under this article who is a Purple Heart recipient may apply for special license plates for vehicles that are not used for transportation for hire, compensation, or profit, under this article. \u2002The special plates assigned to the vehicle shall run in a separate numerical series, shall have inscribed on the plate the Purple Heart insignia, and shall contain the words \u201cCombat Wounded\u201d and \u201cPurple Heart\u201d or at least the letters \u201cPH\u201d as part of the numerical series. \u2002The department shall reserve and issue the special plates to all applicants providing the proof required by subdivision (b).<\/div>\n<div class=\"subsection\">\n<div class=\"subsection\">\n<p>(b)\u2002The applicant, by satisfactory proof, shall show that the applicant is a Purple Heart recipient.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subsection\">\n<p>(c)\u2002Special plates may be issued pursuant to subdivision (a) only for a vehicle owned or coowned by a Purple Heart recipient.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subsection\">\n<p>(d)\u2002Upon the death of a person issued special license plates pursuant to this section, his or her surviving spouse may retain the special license plates subject to the conditions set forth in this section. \u2002<span class=\"added-material\">If there is no surviving<\/span>\u00a0spouse, the\u00a0special license plates shall be returned to the department either (1) within 60 days following that death or (2) upon the expiration of the vehicle registration, whichever occurs first. \u2002\u00a0<span class=\"added-material\">However, in the absence of a surviving spouse, another surviving member of the deceased Purple Heart recipient&#8217;s family may retain one of the special license plates as a family heirloom, subject to the conditions set forth in subdivision (h).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subsection\">\n<p><span class=\"added-material\">(e)\u2002If a surviving spouse who has elected to retain the special license plates as authorized under subdivision (d) dies while in possession of the special license plates, the special license plates shall be returned to the department either within 60 days following that death, or upon the expiration date of the vehicle registration, whichever date occurs first. \u2002However, another surviving member of the deceased Purple Heart recipient&#8217;s family may retain one of the special license plates as a family heirloom, subject to the conditions set forth in subdivision (h).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subsection\">\n<p><span class=\"added-material\">(f)<\/span>\u2002When an applicant for the Purple Heart license plate qualifies as a disabled veteran, as specified in\u00a0<span class=\"cite\">subdivision (b) of Section 22511.55\u00a0<\/span>, the applicant may also apply for a distinguishing placard described in\u00a0<span class=\"cite\">subdivision (a) of Section 22511.55\u00a0<\/span>to be used in conjunction with the Purple Heart license plate for the purpose of allowing special parking privileges pursuant to\u00a0<span class=\"cite\">subdivision (a) of Section 22511.5\u00a0<\/span>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subsection\">\n<p><span class=\"added-material\">(g)<\/span>\u2002<span class=\"cite\">\u00a0Sections 5106\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<span class=\"cite\">5108\u00a0<\/span>do not apply to this section.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subsection\">\n<p><span class=\"added-material\">(h)\u2002The special license plates issued under this section are not valid for use for vehicle registration purposes or for the purposes of\u00a0<span class=\"cite\">Section 9105\u00a0<\/span>, or\u00a0<span class=\"cite\">Section 10783\u00a0<\/span>or\u00a0<span class=\"cite\">10783.2 of the Revenue and Taxation Code\u00a0<\/span>, by a person other than the person issued the special license plates under subdivision (a) and the surviving spouse of that person.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subsection\">\n<p><span class=\"added-material\">(i)\u2002For purposes of this section, \u201c<span class=\"wordphrase\">family<\/span>\u201d means grandparents, stepgrandparents, parents, stepparents, siblings, stepsiblings, children, and stepchildren of the person issued the special license plates under subdivision (a).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br class=\"avia-permanent-lb\" \/><br class=\"avia-permanent-lb\" \/><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a
