class=\"subsection\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"subsection\">\n<div class=\"subsection\">\n<p>(a)\u2002Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the department shall issue new and different license plates immediately upon request to the registered owner of a vehicle who appears in person and submits a completed application, if all of the following are provided:<\/p>\n<div class=\"subsection\">\n<p>(1)\u2002Proof of ownership of the vehicle that is acceptable to the department.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subsection\">\n<p>(2)\u2002A driver&#8217;s license or identification card containing a picture of the licensee or cardholder issued to the registered owner by the department pursuant to Chapter 1 (commencing with\u00a0<span class=\"cite\">Section 12500\u00a0<\/span>) of Division 6. \u2002The department shall conduct a search of its records to verify the authenticity of any document submitted under this paragraph.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subsection\">\n<p>(3)\u2002The previously issued license plates from the vehicle.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subsection\">\n<p>(4)\u2002The payment of required fees under\u00a0<span class=\"cite\">subdivision (c) of Section 4850\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<span class=\"cite\">subdivision (b) of Section 9265\u00a0<\/span>for the issuance of duplicate license plates.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subsection\">\n<p>(5)\u2002One of the following:<\/p>\n<div class=\"subsection\">\n<p>(A)\u2002A copy of a police report, court documentation, or other law enforcement documentation identifying the registered owner of the vehicle as the victim of an incident of domestic violence, as specified in Section 1708.\u00a0<span class=\"cite\">6 of the Civil Code\u00a0<\/span>, the subject of stalking, as specified in\u00a0<span class=\"cite\">Section 1708.7 of the Civil Code\u00a0<\/span>or\u00a0<span class=\"cite\">Section 646.9 of the Penal Code\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"added-material\">, the victim of a rape, as defined in\u00a0<span class=\"cite\">Section 261\u00a0<\/span>or\u00a0<span class=\"cite\">262 of the Penal Code\u00a0<\/span>, or the victim of a sexual battery, as defined in\u00a0<span class=\"cite\">Section 1708.5 of the Civil Code\u00a0<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subsection\">\n<p>(B)\u2002A written acknowledgment, dated within 30 days of submission, on the letterhead of a domestic violence agency\u00a0<span class=\"added-material\">or a rape crisis center<\/span>, that the registered owner is actively seeking assistance or has sought assistance from that agency within the past year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subsection\">\n<p>(C)\u2002An active protective order as defined in\u00a0<span class=\"cite\">Section 6218 of the Family Code\u00a0<\/span>, or issued pursuant to\u00a0<span class=\"cite\">Section 527.6\u00a0<\/span>or\u00a0<span class=\"cite\">527.8 of the Code of Civil Procedure\u00a0<\/span>, which names the registered owner as a protected party.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subsection\">\n<p>(b)\u2002Subdivision (a) does not apply to special license plates issued under Article 8 (<span class=\"added-material\">commencing<\/span>\u00a0with\u00a0<span class=\"cite\">Section 5000\u00a0<\/span>) of Chapter 1 of Division 3, special interest license plates issued under Article 8.4 (commencing with\u00a0<span class=\"cite\">Section 5060\u00a0<\/span>) of Chapter 1 of Division 3, or environmental license plates issued under Article 8.5 (commencing with\u00a0<span class=\"cite\">Section 5100\u00a0<\/span>) of Chapter 1 of Division 3.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br class=\"avia-permanent-lb\" \/><br class=\"avia-permanent-lb\" \/><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a
