Crimes

The criminal statutes define what is considered a crime. They will lay out the exact circumstances required to charge the defendant with a crime, like:

  • Intent
  • Mental state
  • Prohibited conduct.

Most crimes are also given possible punishments. Each jurisdiction will have different names to refer to the crimes as well as different definitions of the crime.
