Heitmann<\/span>\u00a0(1985) 171 Cal.App.3d 106, 111 [214 Cal.Rptr. 581], internal citations omitted.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"SS_ListLabel\">\u2022<\/span><span class=\"SS_ListItemContent\">Courts have held that it is \u201cproper to exclude evidence of the pretrial settlement by one joint tortfeasor from the jury\u2019s consideration, leaving it to the court to apply\u00a0Code of Civil Procedure section 877\u00a0to reduce the verdict.\u201d (<span class=\"SS_it\" data-housestyle=\"EMPHASIS_it\">Knox v. County of Los Angeles<\/span>\u00a0(1980) 109 Cal.App.3d 825, 834\u2013835 [167 Cal.Rptr. 463], internal citation omitted.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"SS_ListLabel\">\u2022<\/span><span class=\"SS_ListItemContent\">\u201c[W]here there is an admission \u2018that a settlement has been made with one or more joint tortfeasors in a certain amount there is no factual question to be resolved by the jury respecting the settlement.\u2019\u2009\u201d (<span class=\"SS_it\" data-housestyle=\"EMPHASIS_it\">Albrecht v. Broughton<\/span>\u00a0(1970) 6 Cal.App.3d 173, 177 [85 Cal.Rptr. 659], internal citation omitted.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"SS_ListLabel\">\u2022<\/span><span class=\"SS_ListItemContent\">\u201cWhere the purpose of introducing evidence of a settlement is to reduce any recovery that might be awarded pro tanto, this result can be achieved by a simple calculation made by the court after the verdict has been rendered.\u201d (<span class=\"SS_it\" data-housestyle=\"EMPHASIS_it\">Shepherd v. Walley<\/span>\u00a0(1972) 28 Cal.App.3d 1079, 1082 [105 Cal.Rptr. 387], footnote omitted.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"SS_ListLabel\">\u2022<\/span><span class=\"SS_ListItemContent\">\u201cThe presentation of evidence concerning the amount or fact of settlement to the jury \u2026 is not only confusing, but also can lead to abuse in argument as it did here.\u201d (<span class=\"SS_it\" data-housestyle=\"EMPHASIS_it\">Shepherd, supra,<\/span>\u00a028 Cal.App.3d at p. 1083.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"SS_ListLabel\">\u2022<\/span><span class=\"SS_ListItemContent\">\u201c[E]vidence of the fact and amount of settlement made by [plaintiff] with [settling witness] might be admissible under proper limiting instructions for the purpose of showing bias since he was a witness.\u201d (<span class=\"SS_it\" data-housestyle=\"EMPHASIS_it\">Shepherd, supra,<\/span>\u00a028 Cal.App.3d at p. 1082, fn. 2, internal citation omitted.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"SS_ListLabel\">\u2022<\/span><span class=\"SS_ListItemContent\">\u201cUnder\u00a0Civil Code section 1431.2, a defendant is only responsible for its share of noneconomic damages as that share has been determined by the jury. \u2018Therefore, a nonsettling defendant may not receive any setoff under [Code of Civil Procedure] section 877\u00a0for the portion of a settlement by another defendant that is attributable to noneconomic damages.\u2019 After application of\u00a0Civil Code section 1431.2, \u2018\u2026 there is no amount that represents a common claim for noneconomic damages against the settling and nonsettling defendants\u2019 and thus\u00a0Code of Civil Procedure section 877\u00a0has no applicability to noneconomic damages.\u201d (<span class=\"SS_it\" data-housestyle=\"EMPHASIS_it\">Ehret v.
